Not from this year but I've read it for the first time this year - can definitely recommend The Fisherman by John Langan. Awesome Lovecraftian vibes and well fleshed-out characters:)
Can’t help but chuckle over the fact that you’ve literally recommended Jawbone to me already and somehow I also fit perfectly into the hyper-specifc blurb you’ve given it ðŸ˜
sorrowland mentioned! based on this incredible list I feel like you would enjoy tear by erica mckeen if you haven’t already read it. my top fiction read of the year was definitely carmilla
tear is on my list but I’ll have to read it soon after your rec! I also read carmilla this year but it wasn’t a favorite, I think it was the vampires for some reason I can’t read books about them but I can see why it’s a classic! have you read any of Solomon’s other books?
I hope you like it! the only other rivers solomon book I’ve read is the deep which I also loved. But I’m especially looking forward to reading their newest release model home sometime this year
model home is very different from sorrowland I’d say but I still did love it I hope you do as well! one thing I adore about their books is the sheer range in themes & content. I’ve been meaning to get to the deep as well!
The novel on Barnes & Nobel, Alouette's Galaxy, is a near-future hopefunk story of first alien contact by a Jewish family, with two rom-com story lines.
Alouette's Galaxy is also a modern re-enactment of The Skylark Of Space, with a college aged crew.
Second novel, Alouette's Universe, is a time travel thriller involving the daughter of that Jewish family, with romantic triangles both in past and present.
Third novel, Alouette's Spark, involves the granddaughter, Spark, a hyperintelligent two year old bumbling her way through toddlerhood, while helping her big uncle David solve a murder mystery and foil a genocide plot.
I hope you will all enjoy them as they come. These are all heartwarming stories with plenty of action.

I’ve heard of it! it wasn’t too slow? I know it’s a decently long one but I’ll have to add it to my list!
Definitely not slow...I felt like it flew by :) There's a story-within-a story that really left me with a lot of images in my mind that stuck:)

i have coup de grace on the shelf but haven't picked it up yet, thanks for the nudge!
it was one of my favorite reads of this year! it’s hard to read because of the subject matter but I felt it dealt with it with tact
